How many months are you covered?
An emergency fund is not a share of your salary, it is a multiple of the bills that keep arriving when the salary stops. Fill in what continues - rent, EMIs, groceries, premiums - and see how long what you have would actually last. The maths runs in your browser and none of your figures are saved or sent to us.

What people get wrong about this
It is a multiple of bills, not salary
Six months of salary and six months of survival cost are very different numbers. If you save a third of what you earn, sizing the fund against salary means over-saving by a third.
A credit limit is not an emergency fund
It is a loan at 36–42% a year, offered on the assumption that your income continues. Job loss is exactly when it becomes the most expensive money you can borrow.
Keep insurance premiums in the list
Lapsing health cover during a bad stretch is how a solvable crisis turns into an unrecoverable one. Premiums belong in the survival number.
Where it sits matters as much as the size
A sweep account, a short FD you can break, or a liquid fund. Not equity, not an ELSS with a lock-in, and not so far away that reaching it takes a week.
This only works if the monthly figure is real.
