FAQ

Questions people ask before connecting their inbox.

Nineteen answers on access, storage, accuracy, cost and installing it. Where the honest answer is that something is not decided yet, it says so.

No server No Vittafy account and no database of ours. Mail goes from Google to your phone.
On-device AI The model is downloaded once and reads your mail locally, offline.
No bank credentials No net banking password, no OTP, no account aggregator link.
01

Is it safe to give Vittafy access to my Gmail?

The access Vittafy asks for is read-only, granted through Google's own consent screen, and revocable from your Google Account security settings at any time without opening the app. Vittafy cannot send, reply, forward or delete mail.

What matters more than the permission is where the mail goes. It is fetched to your phone and read there by a model that was downloaded onto the device. There is no Vittafy server in the path, so there is no account of ours holding your mail and no database of ours to be breached.

02

What exactly does Vittafy read from my email?

Only messages that look like transaction mail: bank and card alerts, payment receipts, salary credits and statement mail. From those it extracts a small set of fields - amount, merchant, account or card identifier, date, and a category.

The message itself is not retained. After extraction the body and subject are dropped, and what stays in your ledger is the numbers, not the email. Personal mail is not opened, not indexed and not sent anywhere.

03

Do you store my transactions on a server?

No. There is no Vittafy account, no Vittafy database, and no sync service. Your transactions sit in an encrypted store inside the app, in the app's own private storage on your phone. They are included in your phone's encrypted backup if you have one turned on, and nowhere else. If you run Vittafy on two phones, each builds its own picture from your mailbox rather than syncing through us.

04

What happens to my data if I delete the app?

It goes with the app. The encrypted store lives inside the app's own storage, so uninstalling removes it. There is no server copy, which means there is nothing to request back and nothing for us to confirm we deleted.

Your mailbox is untouched - the bank mail Vittafy read is still in your Google account, because it was always your bank's mail, not ours. If you want the history first, export it as CSV before you uninstall.

05

Does Vittafy work without an internet connection?

Mostly, yes. Everything already read - your ledger, net worth, spending and holdings - is on the phone, and Ask is answered by the on-device model, so questions work in airplane mode. You need a connection for two things: fetching new mail from Google, and the one-time model download at setup. Ads also require a connection when the app is open.

06

What happens if I lose my phone?

Whoever has the phone still has to get past your device lock, and then past Vittafy's own fingerprint or passcode prompt if you have it on. Nothing can be pulled from our side, because there is nothing on our side - no account to sign into, no web dashboard, no copy of your ledger to expose.

Revoke Vittafy in your Google Account security settings and the lost phone stops reading mail immediately. Erase the device remotely through Find My Device and the encrypted store goes with it. The one real cost is the history itself: with no server copy, a lost phone means a lost ledger unless you kept a CSV export.

07

Is my financial data used to train AI models?

No. The model Vittafy uses is open-weights and already trained; it arrives on your phone finished and is not fine-tuned on your data. Nothing about your mail, transactions or questions is sent anywhere to be learned from, by us or by anyone else, because nothing is sent anywhere at all.

Corrections you make - fixing an amount, renaming a merchant, changing a category - are remembered for that sender on your own device. They stay on the phone and are not collected.

08

How do I disconnect Gmail?

Two ways, and either is enough. Inside the app, disconnect the mailbox: reading stops and the entries that came from it are removed. Outside the app, open your Google Account security settings, find Vittafy under third-party access and revoke it - that works even if you cannot open the app, and it takes effect immediately.

Disconnecting does not touch your mailbox. The bank mail Vittafy read is still in your Google account, exactly as your bank sent it.

09

Do advertisers receive my financial data?

No. Ads are served by Google AdMob, and what it gets is what ad SDKs normally get: your advertising identifier, IP address, device and app information, an approximate location inferred from that IP, and which ads were shown or tapped.

It never receives mail content, a transaction, a merchant, a balance, a holding, a category or a question you asked Vittafy, and none of that is used to target ads. The privacy page lists this in full.

10

Is Vittafy free?

Yes. The app will be free and funded by ads, served by Google AdMob. There is no subscription, no per-question AI bill and no paid tier. Because the AI model runs on your own phone rather than on a paid API, there is no usage cost to pass on to you.

11

Is Vittafy an account aggregator? Do you use the AA framework?

No. Vittafy is not an account aggregator, is not registered as one, and does not use the AA framework, a Financial Information Provider link, or any consent-manager infrastructure. It reads emails your bank already sends you. That is the whole mechanism - no data-sharing arrangement with your bank exists or is needed.

12

Do I need to give you my bank login or net banking password?

Never. Vittafy does not ask for net banking credentials, card PINs, CVVs or OTPs, and it has no way to use them - it never connects to your bank at all. If anything claiming to be Vittafy asks you for a banking password or an OTP, it is not Vittafy. The only sign-in is Google's, for read-only mail access.

13

Does Vittafy read SMS as well as email?

Email only. Bank SMS is the other obvious source of transaction alerts in India, and it is a fair request, but SMS permissions are heavily restricted on both platforms and we have not committed to it yet. If it ships, it will be announced and this page will say so.

14

Which banks and cards are supported?

Vittafy is built and tested against the mail formats of major Indian banks, cards and brokers - HDFC, Kotak, ICICI and Zerodha among them. Because the model reads the mail rather than matching a fixed template per sender, senders it has not seen before often work anyway.

We are not publishing a definitive supported-institutions list, because an incomplete one would be more misleading than useful. If a sender of yours is read wrong, the entry keeps a link to the mail it came from, so you can correct it in one tap.

15

Can I export my data?

Yes, as CSV, whenever you like. The export covers your transactions, accounts and holdings, is generated on the device, and is not routed through any server of ours. You choose where the file goes. Once it leaves the app it is covered by wherever you sent it - your storage, a cloud drive, an email to yourself - rather than by Vittafy's privacy policy.

16

Does Vittafy work outside India?

It is built for India. Amounts are handled in rupees, the mail formats it is tested against are Indian bank, card and broker alerts, and the categories assume Indian spending. It may partly work on mail from a foreign bank, but nothing about that is tested or supported, and multi-currency handling does not exist yet.

17

What AI model does Vittafy use, and where does it run?

A small open-weights language model - Qwen3-0.6B - running on the phone through the LiteRT-LM runtime on Android. It is downloaded once during setup and then reads your mail locally, with no request leaving the device to have a message understood.

A 0.6B model is small by chatbot standards and more than enough for this job, because the task is structured extraction from short, formulaic mail rather than open-ended conversation.

18

How accurate is the transaction extraction?

Good on the formats it has been tested against, and not perfect. Mail templates change without notice, and a sender that reworks its alert layout can produce a wrong figure or a missed transaction.

Where confidence is low the mail is skipped rather than guessed at, and you can correct or add an entry by hand. We are not publishing an accuracy percentage until we have a measurement we would stand behind. Always check a figure against your bank's own statement before acting on it.

19

How do I install Vittafy?

Two ways, both free, both Android 10 and above. From the Play Store, where Vittafy is in closed testing - ask for access and we add your Google account, after which updates arrive on their own like any other app. Or download the APK from the homepage, which needs no access and installs straight away; Android will ask you once to allow it, which is standard for any app installed outside the store.

The trade-off is updates: the Play Store build updates itself, while an APK means downloading the next build yourself.
